Daily Winners and Losers by Rudi Laermans
The theme for this publication published by Onomatopee was ‘visual rhetorics’. The text in this issue written by Rudi Laermans, talks especially about the individual person and how he is influenced by all kind of different types of media in the making of his choice. In the end it is all about the ‘attention’ that is asked for. To get this ‘attention’ as a designer I chose 15 important sentences from the text and painted these all by hand on a big sheet of paper. These slogans become almost images placed on their own page. The yellow layer in the background exists of all kind of commercials, that were shown to me within 24 hours, without me asking for it. The publication is printed on glossy paper, that is often used for commercial mailings that you get in your mailbox. If you want to read in the good order, you need to follow the instructions that are put on every page. With this way of signing, I want to let the reader create his own opinion and challenge him to NOT follow the more logical and the obvious way of reading a book.
